Aphrodisiac - a substance that increases sexual desire, pleasure, or behavior.
Given the name from the Ancient Greek Goddess, Aphrodite. Appropriately so, she was the Goddess of love, beauty, desire, and all aspects of sexuality. Beautiful and enchanting, she was frequently depicted nude, infinitely desirable and as infinitely out of reach. But unlike Aphrodite, Aphrodisiacs aren't out of reach. In fact, they are readily available in many naturally derived forms.
Surely we've all heard that raw oysters are such a gifted food, but what I find most intriguing is the sensual stimulation to be felt from certain scents.
But what exactly does desire smell like?
Although scent is subjective, there is science behind what triggers arousal in both men and women. While you are likely attracted to scents that remind you of your lover, there are certain notes that trigger a biochemical response.
